Research guidance

Simulation technology is a tool and the best tool in the world can be the wrong tool for the job.

SIMTEQ Engineering’s team of engineers offers final year and post-graduate university students advice on which technology is the best fit for their final year or research projects.

To make use of this offer, please consider the following:

You should show intent and willingness to follow this approach:

  • After a thorough literature study, simulation technology should be used on several concepts before a final design is decided upon for testing or manufacturing and then a more detailed analysis should be conducted on the chosen design and the results compared to test results.

If you don’t follow the above approach and only use simulation technology as a final check, you missed the value that simulation technology can provide you.

It is important to note that you will only be able to achieve success with your research (and any engineering project in the future) if you can show that you clearly understand the problem as well as the solution. Simulation technology provides a wealth of information that cannot be obtained by testing alone, although accurate tests are always recommended to confirm the validity of any simulation model.

What does a Student Version Offer?

The student versions have all the capabilities of the normal commercial software versions but it is limited on the size of the model that can be analysed.

In most cases, these student versions will be sufficient for all the undergraduate modules and the limitations will only become a concern for lecturers and postgraduate students where larger and more complex models need to be analysed.

CivilFEM: Advanced Nonlinear Simulation for Civil Engineers

CivilFEM Student is tailored to civil engineering students working on structural problems such as earthquake analysis that has non-linearities and dynamics. CivilFEM can significantly improve the efficiency of the structural design and analysis process. Better solutions can be identified earlier and innovative construction processes can be tested in a virtual environment.

Design verification according to international reinforced concrete and structural steel standards as well as other civil engineering standards are available in the software.

Civil engineering specific structural analysis output is supported, these include

  • Load path history
  • Automatic response spectrum for seismic analysis
  • Nonlinear time history analysis

Generating a model is easy and highly efficient because of a library of materials and hot-rolled structural steel sections. All the material properties are time-dependent and allow the definition of true stress-strain diagrams and advanced nonlinear behaviour.

CivilFEM Student gives students or any professional access to all functionality of the CivilFEM commercial version, but with a limitation of 1000 beams and 5000 mesh nodes.

The product is available to any engineering student who is registered at an engineering school or to any professional who wants to get a taste of what CivilFEM has to offer.

CivilFEM Student is for academic use only, it may not be used for any commercial activities.

CivilFEM Student will give you the tools that you require to be successful in today’s job market.
