By setting up multiple runs, users can experiment with various vent layouts, inlets, pressure, and flow rates without using costly resources like materials, equipment, and labor. Advanced inlet controls can also be modelled to explore alternative resin feeding flows, preventing premature curing and thickness anomalies. Moldex3D RTM allows for the investigation of different material layers, orientations, and core thicknesses to determine material permeability. Moreover, it facilitates the modelling of various fibre orientations and material properties for each layer of the designed part to assess their effects.
Moldex3D is the industry-leading tool for injection moulding tool designers and part manufacturers to enhance smart manufacturing, reduce risks and scrap rates to ultimately increase competitiveness and profitability.

(Electric Piano) Engineer

What comes to mind when I say “Electric Piano”? Well I’m pretty sure it is not what Mattias Krantz built. He thought it would be interesting to see if he could retrofit an existing piano to play notes using electric arcs.

Yes, it is as silly as it sounds. All you need is an old piano, some hammers, a potential difference of about 1 million Volt, some clever electronics to chop the arc into the relevant frequencies, some backyard insulation to make sure that the arc doesn’t jump and a good measure of trial and error. In the end, Mattias gets it right and the piano sounds as amazing as you could have imagined.

  • Automatic Contact Generation (ACG) via Nastran’s ACG tool:  Nastran has had the ability to automatically generate contact bodies and pairs since 2018. Patran 2023.2 now allows the user to turn this functionality ON when translating a model into a Nastran input file. For solution sequences that support contact, this functionality is accessible from the Analysis application’s Solution Parameters | Contact Parameters... form. When Nastran runs with ACG, it creates a <jobname>.acg file. This file contains the generated deformable contact bodies and body pairs in the form of BCBODY1 and BCONECT entries, including any other entries necessary to define the bodies/pairs and their properties. Sometimes, with complicated models, the ACG does not create the desired bodies and pairs. It is possible to read in the ACG file into Patran in order to visualize the bodies and pairs created by Nastran.
  • HDF5 I4/I8 Support in Random Analysis Tool: Patran now supports HDF5 I4/I8 result files produced by Nastran for random analysis. The workflow is identical to the existing XDB file support. With this implementation, users can now perform random analysis on MSC Nastran HDF5 files as well as the existing capability with XDB files.
  • Deformation of  RBEs:  Nodes connected to RBEs did not deform in a deformation plot unless they were connected to a real (non-MPC) element. This limitation is now resolved and the deformation plot is rendered in a properly.
